The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

Decisions

Author's Note- This is a response to the decision Christopher's father made in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.

Your decisions can greatly impact the life of yourself and the ones you love. It is best to think very hard before you act. Taking a minor amount of time can save you a major portion of time that you would be regretting your choice. Sometimes these choices may seem insignificant, but even the slightest sum of time could make a difference.

One example of this is in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time to the father of the main character. His wife left him and he decided to tell the main character, Christopher that she was dead. When Christopher found out about his father's lie, he decided he couldn't trust him anymore and he wouldn't talk to his father, and that and both of their lives' became very chaotic and confused.

This is just one example of how a single decision can greatly impact your life, so think things through. It could make life a lot easier for you and the people around you. Make sure you are making the right decision and save yourself regret.

Alone

Author's Note- This was another response to The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. This was about a part in the book where Christopher is trying to get to his mother's house, but he is completely alone.

Life can be very fun with lots of fun times and lots of joy, but it can also be very full of pain and sorrow. When these hard times come upon us, our friends are who help us through many times. These hard times are difficult enough, but they would be much harder without the help of our friends.

Sometimes you may get mad at your friends, and you might say things that you don't mean. It's better to swallow your pride in an argument and just say that you are sorry. It's usually better to keep those friends. If you lost all of your friends, you would be very alone in this world.

That is how Christopher Boone feels in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. He finds out that his father lied to him about his mothers death. Christopher also found that his father killed the neighbor's dog. Due to these things, he no longer trusted his father and decided to travel to London to live with his mother. In his journey, he is very lost and alone. He has nobody to help him; no one to guide him. This is how you would feel without friends.

So be kind to your friends, because they are your companions through life, through joy and pain. Without them, you wouldn't have much fun, and you be alone. Completely alone.

Secrets

Author's Note- This is another response to The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. It is a response to a part in the book where the main character finds out many secrets that affect him greatly.

In a person's life, there may be many secrets. They may not even know that there are, but there may be. Some of these may have been covered up by lies. Sometimes it is better not to know these secrets. Some could have greater effects than others. Sometimes, they can change a person's life.

This is what happens in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time to Christopher Boone. He was told that his mother was dead, and he believed this for years.  Life went along and everything was OK. Then one day, he discovers that his mother is still alive and that his fathers killed his neighbor's dog, Wellington. These found secrets changed his life. He no longer trusted his  father and decided to run away. His whole life was completely chaotic.

Things would have been much easier for everyone if he had not found out these secrets. Life would have went along as usual, but instead, he found out too much and it changed his life in a negative way. Sometimes, it is better to let secrets remain confidential and make lives easier.

Expression Beyond the Equation

Author's Note- This was in response to The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time with a part where it talks about how Christopher likes math and isn't very good at interacting with people and their feelings.

Math is a great topic to study for many reasons. One of the reasons that I like it so much is that there is a certain given answer and I don't have to critical think. It was so much easier for me because I don't have to think outside of the box. I used to always just work strictly by the book and not my own thoughts, but I have learned how to express myself through writing and that has helped me in other things. Expressing your feelings is a necessary part of life.

This is one thing that Christopher Boone from The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time doesn't quite understand. It is hard for him to go beyond math. I used to not really know how to express myself in my writing, just like Christopher. He doesn't understand feelings nearly as well as we can. I like math for the same reason as him. It is safe. Things have be become a lot better since I have been able to express my self beyond the equation.

It is so much better to express your feelings than to keep them inside. It might be through writing like me, or maybe by just talking, but it is extremely important to. For you, it might be easy. Just make sure that you do because it makes people who they are. Even though it used to be hard for me because i just wanted stick to what was easy for me in math, I have learned that everyone should express themselves.

Just Think

Author's Note- This is another response to my reading in The Curious incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. I responded to how he talks about his mother's death and I really felt I could relate to that because my grandmother died recently.

A normal day, walking down the halls of school with your usual routine. When the last bell rings, you get on the bus and go home. Everything is going fine as you walk through the front door. That's when it hits you. Your dad gives you the devastating news. The news that would change your life forever. He tells you that your mother has died of a heart attack. News like can devastate anyone.

This is what happens to Christopher Boone in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. He loses his mother to a heart attack. This event may not impact you into feeling very sympathetic for Christian, because he is a character in a book, but I encourage you to just take a moment and think about a time when you lost a loved one. Think about all the pain that it gave you, and then maybe you will be able to understand others better. You can do this when reading literature, and really put yourself in the main character's position.

So next time you read a book, think hard about the characters. Just take a moment to put down the book and just think. It might help you understand the characters, the book, and maybe even yourself better by relating to them. So just take a moment. Just think.

Be Thankful for the Simple Things

Author's note: I wrote this in response to my first experience reading from The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. This is about the main character of the book. He has many things about him that make him an interesting person, but this really brought a lot that I could write about.

On a daily basis, we go to school. We see friends, and interact with them. Everyone expresses their feelings in several different ways. They use a combination of actions, tone of voice, and facial expressions. Often times, we understand how they are feelings based on these things. Our minds process these things in very little time if not instantly. We think nothing of this as we take it for granted.

There are some people that can't do this. They cannot read emotions like we can. That is how Christopher Boone is in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. Christopher is a very intelligent child, but his mind doesn't process things beyond the math, science, and logic. Being able to understand these emotions may seem normal to us, but we should be thankful for these gifts that may seem small, but they are not.

Just imagine not being able to interpret different facial expressions. You would most likely feel very lost, alone, or confused at some times. When I took a moment just to think about that, to let that settle into my thoughts, I realized how terrible that would really be. So just be grateful for the simple things and that might help you understand others better.

  1. Very nice job. I like your voice here and how these two responses are efficient, clear, ad to the point. Well done. I would add a small point; we underline the title of books.

  2. I enjoyed your piece about expressing yourself in some way, and how it is healthy for all of us to find some way to express our thoughts and feelings. Side note: be sure to make your most recent posting on the top of the page. Meanwhile, keep up the good work. This is quite a nice response.

  4. Commenting on Alone

This was a good piece. I liked how you were able to discover this theme in the story. Being alone is never fun. You had good details to support this. Good work

  5. I like the conclusion you draw from the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. The response considering the lie Christopher's father told him is a nice, genuine response. Do you think it's ever okay to lie to a child? Did the dad do the right thing?

  6. I liked your responses a lot,you really did bring to light certain undertones in the book. One thing that really popped out to me, now I'm not in your class, so I naturally don't know if you were supposed to do this; but you seemed to use repetitive phrase: That's what happened in The Curious Incident of The Dog in Nighttime
